Prince William County Police responded to a call on the 3500 block of Bath Court in Woodbridge at approximately 11:48 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, for a report of a domestic altercation.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Woodbridge resident Vanjalena Nicole Hines, who had reportedly assaulted a family member, a spokesperson from the Prince William County Police Department confirmed.

While officers were taking Hines into custody, what started as a routine domestic call took a dangerous turn, police said.

As Hines was being escorted to a police cruiser, she allegedly resisted, grabbing hold of one of the officers and then reaching for the officer’s service weapon, according to investigators.

Despite the escalation, the officer maintained control, preventing her from accessing the weapon and securing Hines without any reported injuries, police reported.

Hines was charged with:

  • Assault and battery;
  • Attempt to disarm a law enforcement officer;
  • Domestic assault and battery;
  • Two counts of obstruction of justice.

She was held without bond pending her next court appearance.
